Barbara Aberdeen, was the partner of Andrew Sim and mother of their daughter Amelia Sim. She had one enslaved woman, Prudence, who was born in Africa. Prudence joined the household in 1828 having been under the ownership of Andrew Sim for at least 11 years previously. Prudence, a survivor of the Middle Passage, remained a steady and resilient presence in their home, living through enslavement until her eventual release.
