Depths of Paradise is a passionate initiative led by family researcher Stephen Lewis. While tracing ancestral records, he encountered a stark divide: abundant documentation of estate owners, but near silence surrounding the lives of the enslaved. That absence and the desire to learn more became the spark for this project.

Depths of Paradise pairs estate claimants with the lives of those they enslaved, Our mission is simple: to restore erased histories, reconnect descendants with their roots, and ensure Grenada’s story is told in full. 

Through this free online archive and the resources on this site we strive to transform lists of names into human lives and lasting memory. 

By reclaiming these stories, we celebrate the courage of those who endured. In every name recovered, we uncover resilience. In every story told, we awaken strength. And in every act of remembrance, we help shape a more just and compassionate world for ourselves and for generations to come.
